ISO22000
What is ISO 22000?
ISO 22000 is the international standard for a Food Safety Management System (FSMS), aimed at ensuring safety consistently from food production through distribution and consumption.
Based on the HACCP approach while combining a management system (the PDCA cycle and risk management), it's a standard that can be adopted across the entire food supply chain, from producers of agricultural products to food manufacturers, packaging-material makers, and logistics operators.
The features and background of ISO 22000
Established: issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in 2005, with a revised edition (ISO 22000:2018) published in 2018
Scope: not limited to food manufacturing; a wide range of industries such as packaging, logistics, and equipment makers are covered
Structure: a management system incorporating the PDCA cycle and risk management in addition to HACCP's seven principles
Relationship with FSSC 22000: FSSC 22000 is a certification scheme adding requirements on top of ISO 22000, and is often used in international trade
Trend: in exports and trade with major food companies, obtaining ISO 22000 or FSSC 22000 is becoming a de facto requirement

An adoption case as a step toward future FSSC 22000 certification is also envisioned
